It’s very easy to think of community as a nice bonus prize to being made right with God. The Bible, however, puts this community building at the core of what God is doing in the world.

INTRO TO CHRIST CENTRAL

This is a class for anybody who wants to learn more about our life together at Church. In this class we cover basic Christian beliefs, distinctive beliefs of our denominational tradition, and some particulars about the vision and mission of Christ Central Church. Though this class is required for pursuing membership, attending this class does NOT commit you to join our church at all. Our desire in this class is to help people understand who we are and why we do what we do.

MEMBERSHIP

People often ask, “Why do we emphasize ‘membership’? Where is that in the Bible?” The answer is actually simple. Though, the phrase “church membership” is not used in the New Testament, the concept is presupposed on almost every page. The reason for this is simple: there is no such thing as community without a commitment to one another. You’ll learn a ton more about this at the Intro to Christ Central class, or just take an elder or pastor to lunch and pick their brains about why this is so important to our view of the faith.

JOINING DAY ORIENTATION AND PARTY

Joining a church is counter cultural in this day and age. We live a world of cynicism—hedging our bets before connecting ourselves to any to institutions, political party, or movement. We like to be known as individuals not as a member of community.

The Bible, though, takes a different approach; it calls followers of Jesus a “new humanity” and expects us to treat each other like family—sharing one Lord, one baptism, one table. So when people vow to join Christ Central Church, we throw a party. And at Christ Central, we are good at throwing parties. So the day you join will have a short orientation during the Sunday school and that night we’ll throw a get-to-know-each-other party for all the folks that joined that day.
